Four Royals' Minor-League Affiliates Win League Titles

Charles Polomsky is a United States Air Force C-17 pilot who has been awarded three Meritorious Service Medals and the National Defense Service Medal, among other military accolades. A fan of Kansas City's professional sports teams, Charles Polomsky enjoys following Major League Baseball's (MLB) Royals in his free time.

Although the Royals will miss the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, there is reason for optimism in Kansas City as four of the organization's minor-league affiliates won league championships in 2019. On September 13, its Class A affiliate in Lexington won its second consecutive South Atlantic League title. The following night, Class A Wilmington won the Carolina League championship and, on September 15, Idaho Falls, its Rookie-Advanced club, won the Pioneer League championship. Kansas City's Dominican Summer League affiliate also won its championship earlier in September.

The organization's minor league accomplishments are especially noteworthy as no franchise has won four minor league championships since the Cleveland Indians accomplished the feat in 2005. Lexington won its league title in walk-off fashion after Reed Rohlman hit a game-winning, two-run home run in the bottom of the 13th inning of Game 4 against Hickory. Wilmington, meanwhile, staved off elimination five times en route to winning its first title in 20 years.
